Polkomtel and P4 to share network infrastructure

2011-09-16

Polkomtel, a Plus mobile network operator, has held preliminary negotiations with P4, the fourth largest mobile telephony provider, operating Play network, concerning infrastructural partnership between the both companies. Joint infrastructure is a way for telecommunication operators to reduce the companies’ expenditures. The cooperation of Polkomtel and P4 would be another one in the Polish market concerning merging networks. Also, PTK Centertel, the operator of Orange and PTC, managing T-Mobile network, concluded in June 2011 a 15-year-long agreement for co-usage of their mobile access networks, which is further detailed in “PTC and PTK Centertel to share network“.

Polkomtel and P4 have been cooperating for several years. In August 2011, the operators prolonged the agreement on national roaming, previously signed in 2006. As a result, the operators can use each other’s mobile networks to provide their services in geographic areas where they have no coverage.
