Netia initiates consortium for broadband internet network project
2011-12-02
Netia, the largest alternative fixed-line operator in terms of both revenues and subscribers, along with
Dialog (a fixed services provider recently acquired by Netia),
Budimex (a construction company) and
Ericsson (a telecommunications equipment manufacturer) signed on 29 November 2011 a letter of intent for joint construction of regional broadband network. All members of the consortium created by Netia declared a readiness of participation in tenders for the construction of broadband internet network, particularly in the projects “Internet for Mazowsze region” and “Broadband Network in Eastern Poland”. The latter one recently was approved by the European Commission and is the largest ICT investment in Europe financed by the EU with a total value amounting to PLN 1.4bn (€306.5m). The investment will be mostly focused on the development of a fibre-optic network.
The consortium is likely to compete with another one created by
TP Group,
Alcatel-Lucent (both telecom equipment and solution providers) and
Hawe (a company specialised in the telecom network construction), which concluded a cooperation agreement for the development of broadband infrastructure in Poland in August 2011.
