Tri-City to implement intelligent transport system

2012-01-05

The Municipal Council of Gdynia adjudicated a tender for the implementation of an intelligent transport system (ITS), called Tristar, in the Tri-City area. The biggest benefit from implementing Tristar is an expected 20-30% increase of the capacity on roads in Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot. The system is expected to be implemented by the end of 2014.
The tender was announced already in June 2011. The lowest price of PLN 133.8m (€30.1m) was offered by the Polish system integrator Qumak-Sekom, which in consequence won the bid.
Among the bidders also taking part in the tender were other system integrators such as Sprint, offering a price of PLN 138.9m (€31.3m), Grupa UTI Polska (PLN 159.8m [€36.0m]), Asseco Poland (PLN 187.9m [€42.3m]), the consortium Alcatel, Indra and Mirabel Investments (PLN 225.3m [€50.8m]), the consortium Wasko and Gertrude (PLN 239.1m [€53.9m]) as well as the consortium Atrem and PBG (PLN 245.7m [€55.4m]).
This investment in Tristar is being realised with the support of the European Fund of Regional Development, which allocated to this aim PLN 159.8m (€35.9m), while the whole amount spent for the project is supposed to reach PLN 186.7m (€42m).

Poland to invest in ITS
The Centre for EU Transport Projects approved in the budget for the 2007-2013 period €140m, an amount that is to be spent on the deployment of ITS in Poland. Out of 14 projects submitted to the centre, 11 obtained the asked-for funds (with one project gaining a decreased value). The remaining three projects, filed by the cities of Warszawa, Jastrzebie-Zdroj and Legnica, are considered as back-up offers.
