UPC to launch digital TV in 2008
2007-03-30
UPC Polska, the most prominent cable TV operator in Poland (in terms of the number of users), intends to launch a digital TV offer commercially in 2008. Its competitors have already introduced such an offer, but UPC insists that there has, so far, been no demand for one.
The operator’s offer will consist of high-definition TV (HDTV), personal video recorders (PVR) and a video-on-demand (VOD) service. UPC Polska insists that the hardware will be available at an affordable price. This could mean that the company intends to sign long-term subscription contracts.
Other CaTV operators are offering digital TV, but it is used by few of their subscribers. Aster has 47,000 such clients, representing 13% of the total number. Of Vectra’s customers fewer than 5% are signed up for digital services.
