Techmex to prepare maps for Norwegian army
2007-03-30
Techmex, a Bielsko-Biala-based IT company active in the field of GIS systems, has received a PLN 25m (€6.4m) contract from the Norwegian army for the preparation of digital maps covering an area of 2 million km2.
Techmex will be a subcontractor for Denmark’s COWI, an international consulting group which deals with infrastructure projects. The maps will be used by NATO for military purposes, but Techmex has not disclosed any details relating to the contract. The company insists that, from a technical point of view, the project will be the most complex in the firm’s history.
The contract has been signed for three years, but Techmex expects it to be extended. The company emphasises that payment for the work will be made in monthly instalments. Techmex is to process satellite photographs and has stated that the margins for such services are good.
The revenues from GIS related contracts grew from 2005’s PLN 30m (€7.7m) to PLN 56m (€14.4m) in 2006. Techmex insists that the figure will increase substantially in 2007. The forecasts will be presented in the near future.
