TP SA’s data transfer limits under investigation
2007-03-30
The telecoms market regulator (the UKE) is investigating the data transfer limits imposed by TP SA on its competitors. The incumbent has abolished limits for individual users who signed up for the broadband service, but they are still valid for operators who offer internet access via TP SA’s lines.
The UKE stated that in March 2007 TP SA and one of its competitors signed an agreement which envisages additional payment for any increase in the amount of data sent via the incumbent’s network. The regulator has not, however, imposed a fine, as it wants to check whether the limit is actually in place.
TP SA emphasises that the limits have been removed and that there is, therefore, no reason for a fine. The UKE announced recently that it is going to fine TP SA for obstacles encountered by subscribers in switching to broadband services offered by other operators, and for failing to comply with the regulator’s suggestions with regard to the reference interconnection offer (RIO).
