51% of adult Poles own a personal computer and more than a third have internet access. These are the findings of a poll carried out by the survey research organisation CBOS.
CBOS reports that the proportion of respondents who said that they have a computer increased last year by five percentage points. Most use the computer every day or almost every day. According to the poll, 37% of Poles have internet access, reflecting an increase of six percentage points. CBOS emphasises that the population of internet users has more than doubled over the last five years. Forty per cent of them have an internet connection at home. This figure had risen by 11 percentage points in comparison with that observed 12 months earlier.
In February 2007 around 9% of respondents stated that they had bought something via the internet, usually books or CDs, but also electronic appliances and clothing. A similar number (9%) said that they met someone online, and 3% that they experienced aggression on the internet: threats, insults or unwelcome propositions.
