Netia aiming at 100,000 broadband subscribers
2007-04-19
Netia, an alternative telecommunications operator, intends to have one million broadband clients in three years’ time. To achieve this goal, the company plans to invest PLN 700m (€184.2m). At the moment, the subscriber base for broadband stands at around 100,000. The operator also stated that it expects to be in the black in three years’ time.
Netia has revealed its strategy for the next few years. The company will not rule out a merger with P4, its subsidiary which operates the Play mobile network. A decision on such a move is to be made at the end of 2008. Miroslaw Godlewski, the operator’s CEO, described, at a press conference, a possible merger with P4 as “natural” and said that Netia has to take this into account.
In accordance with the plan, Netia’s revenues in 2007 should be somewhere in the range of PLN 830-865m (€218-227.6m), whereas the company earned PLN 862.06m (€226.8m) in 2006. The operator expects, however, that its revenues will grow rapidly in 2008. As a result, Netia wants to become the operator with the most rapidly growing revenues in Poland. 2008 growth will be driven by the arrival of the 200,000 new clients whom the telco intends to attract by the end of 2007.
Netia plans to offer mobile services for business clients and, according to company representatives, the pilot stage of this project will begin in 2007, and the commercial launch is scheduled for 2008. The services will be provided on the basis of the mobile network owned by P4, but, in contrast to the mobile offer for individual users, this will be available under the Netia brand name instead of Play. In the third quarter of 2007, the operator will start selling subscriptions for TP SA’s customers on the basis of the wholesale line rental (WLR) agreement. Services based on local loop unbundling (LLU) will be launched in the second half of the year.
