Onet.pl launches yellow pages service

Onet.pl, the most popular portal in Poland, has launched a new service known as zumi.pl, an online directory which contains information on around one million companies in Poland. The website allows the user to locate the nearest company of the required kind and provides contact data and the shortest route.
Zumi.pl will compete with other directories available online and on CD (the so-called yellow pages industry). In 2006 this market became worth PLN 300m (€78.9m), because of revenues from advertising via the directories. This reflects the value of the online advertising market in Poland last year.
Onet.pl plans to attract companies by offering a free listing on its database. A company would have to pay for the additional modes of displaying information. The portal expects that the service will start making a profit by the end of 2008.
