Play advertisements to be investigated
2007-05-10
The advertising campaign which promoted Play, the mobile network operated by P4, is to be investigated by the Advertising Standards Commission. The commission claims that it has received numerous complaints about the campaign accusing the operator of, among other things, causing religious offence.
Controversy also rose because of billboards which portrayed children and hands with severed fingers. The operator stated that the reaction to the campaign has changed as a result of media comment, as consumer tests carried out before the campaign’s launch did not indicate that the advertisements were perceived as shocking.
