PTC refuses to comply with UKE decision
2007-05-10
PTC, the operator of the Era and Heyah mobile networks, has announced that it is not going to comply with the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) order to send new rules and conditions of service provision to its subscribers. The regulator decided that the company must do this because it recently made some changes to the rules and that the subscribers are, therefore, entitled to terminate their contracts without having to pay a penalty if they do not approve of the changes.
PTC insisted that this was a minor change and that it did not allow the subscribers to give up their subscriptions without contractual penalties. The UKE’s decision was issued on 6 April, and the operator had one month to comply. It has not, however, sent any statement on this matter and has ordered its sales staff to inform clients that there is a penalty if the contract is to be terminated. The regulator will probably decide to impose a fine on PTC, but the amount has not yet been decided.
