Unused money from pre-paid accounts will not be refunded

The Competition and Consumer Protection Court (SOKiK) has ruled that PTK Centertel, the operator of the Orange mobile network, does not have to refund money from a pre-paid account to a user who had not used it before the specified deadline.
The ruling resulted from a complaint lodged by an Orange client who applied to the operator for a refund of unused money. PTK Centertel responded by saying that the money can be refunded to be used for calls only if the user tops up the pre-paid account within five days of the money being lost. The client claimed that the operator had broken the law by refusing to pay the money back, that a full service had not been provided and that the company should, therefore, refund the unused money.
PTK Centertel replied that if the petition were not rejected, the very raison d’être of pre-paid offers would be in doubt. The court agreed with this argument.
