P4 has 100,000 customers and hopes for 750,000 by end of year

P4, the operator of the Play mobile network, has disclosed that, seven weeks after the commercial launch of its services, it has succeeded in attracting 100,000 customers. The company decided, therefore, to revise its forecast with regard to the anticipated subscriber count at the end of the year. Analysts estimated that there could be around 500,000 people signed up for Play, and the company now predicts 750,000 by the end of 2007. Marcin Gruszka, a spokesperson for P4, has told ICT Update Poland that the company is not going to reduce prices further in the near future to attract more clients. He claims that most customers who applied for number portability, from their existing operator to Play, are Orange subscribers. Mr Gruszka added: We intend to offer subscribers the opportunity to buy a new handset every year, and there will also be a promotional offer relating to roaming. In his opinion subscribers who decide to switch to Play are, in general, comparatively active and use their mobile phones frequently, this being reflected in the fact that the operator has a high ARPU – PLN 189.6 (€50.2) for post-paid clients and PLN 86.9 (€23) for pre-paid users. The operator has also stated that it expects subscriber numbers to reach one million within one year of the launch. P4 hopes to earn revenues of PLN 350m (€92.6m) in 2007 and PLN 2.6bn (€687.8m) in 2009. The market share in terms of the number of subscribers is expected to stand at 11% in 2009 and 17% in 2015.
