Polkomtel overtakes PTC in terms of subscriber numbers

2007-05-17

The number of subscribers of PTC, the operator of the Era and Heyah mobile networks, at the end of the first quarter of 2007, was 12.373m, of which 4.746m were post-paid customers. The operator has thus lost its second position in terms of subscriber base to Polkomtel, the operator of the Plus and Sami Swoi mobile networks.
PTC has stated that it is not aiming to have the largest number of SIM cards on the market. According to Klaus Hartmann, the company’s CEO, the operator is more interested in attracting clients who generate more revenue and are open to new services. In Q1 2006 the firm acquired 215,000 new post-paid customers but lost 70,000 pre-paid users. PTK Centertel, the operator of the Orange network, has found 185,000 post-paid and 75,000 pre-paid new clients. Polkomtel claims that it has succeeded in adding 600,000 new customers to its base.

PTC has stated that it intends to regain pride of place among operators in terms of revenues.
