Roaming rates to be reduced in 2007
2007-05-17
The negotiators of the European Parliament and the EU member states have reached agreement on the proposed roaming fees to be introduced in the EU. The maximum per minute rate for an outgoing call has been set at €0.49 net and that for an incoming call at €0.24 net.
The rates are to be introduced in the summer of 2007, possibly as early as July. In subsequent years the fees are to be reduced further: in 2008 to €0.46 and €0.22, and in 2009 to €0.43 and €0.19 respectively.
The negotiators have decided that the new rates will be applied to all subscribers three months after the new regulations have come into force. Before this, customers will be able to apply to their operators for the new roaming tariff. If they do not, the new roaming prices will be applied automatically.
