Will Tele2 Polska be sold?
2007-05-25
The press has begun to speculate that Tele2 Polska, an alternative telecommunications operator, is up for sale, as Tele2 AB, its parent company based in Sweden, is going to focus on those markets likely to produce the most substantial profits. The Swedish company has not identified the countries on the shortlist to be abandoned.
A Tele2 Polska spokesperson, Karol Wieczorek, declined, in a conversation with ICT Update Poland, to comment on rumours that the operator is to be sold to another investor. He also stated that recent changes in Tele2 subsidiaries across Europe are intended chiefly to put the group’s structure in order.
Tele2 Polska offers telecommunication services to TP SA’s clients by means of a prefix and on the basis of the wholesale line rental (WLR) agreement with the incumbent. The operator refuses, however, to disclose the number of customers signed up for WLR or its estimates of the future size of the subscriber base. The company also plans to offer internet access via TP SA lines under the terms of the bitstream access (BSA) agreement. The launch of this service is scheduled for mid-2007.
