PSE abandons Exatel sale
2007-05-25
The national grid operator, PSE, has announced that it does not intend to sell Exatel, an alternative telecommunications operator. This came a surprise, as PSE had claimed that it wanted to dispose of the telco.
Exatel was founded as the result of the merger of Tel-Energo and Tel-Bank and offers telecommunications services to the energy industry, other telecoms and corporate clients. PSE wants Exatel to enter the retail market. This is part of the grid operator’s strategy with energy market liberalisation looming as of 1 July 2007. Clients will be able to choose their energy supplier, and PSE wants to offer a bundled offer of energy and telecommunications services. No details have, however, been disclosed.
