Tender for 1800 MHz frequencies announced
2007-05-25
The telecoms market watchdog (the UKE) has announced a tender for two frequencies in the 1800 MHz band to be used for public telecommunication networks. The regulator has not stipulated any restrictions with regard to the technology for which the frequencies might be used – this could be mobile or fixed telephony, or, perhaps, wireless internet access.
The deadline for the submission of bids in the tender is 24 August 2007. According to a UKE spokesperson, Jacek Strzalkowski, the deadline is far enough ahead to allow the interested companies time to prepare their offers. He also stated that the clause on “preserving the competition conditions” is designed to increase the chances of companies which do not at the moment operate on, for example, the GSM market. This clause is to be the most pivotal in the process of evaluating the bids.
