According to the GUS, 45% of Polish households had a computer in 2006 and 36% were connected to the internet. Broadband was used in 22% of the households. The GUS reported that the principal reasons for not having internet access were the absence of any need to have it (43% of households), the costs of equipment and of the access itself (36% and 35% respectively) and a lack of skills (19%). With regard to the telephony, the GUS said that 74% of households used mobile phones and 72% fixed-line. The highest penetration rate of mobile phones, computers and the internet is found among households with the highest incomes, located in the largest cities and where there are children.
