2007-06-14
Cyfrowy Polsat, a digital satellite TV platform, is going to launch a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and to offer high-definition TV by the end of 2007. The company is also considering offering broadband and fixed-line telephony in the future.
The new projects would require “hundreds of millions of zloty”, as the company asserts, and the funds might be raised via an IPO. According to the Polish Press Agency, the investments of Cyfrowy Polsat might reach PLN 400-500m (€104-130m) by the end of 2008.
The company intends to increase its subscriber count from 1.5m in May 2007 to 2m by the end of the year. It also wants to maintain the revenue growth rate, which was approximately 80% in 2006. Cyfrowy Polsat earned PLN 489m (€127m) in contrast with PLN 271m (€70.4m) in the previous year and netted PLN 33m (€8.6m), whereas in 2005 it was PLN 42m (€10.9m) in the red.
