2007-06-21

PTC, the Era mobile network operator, has announced that its 3G network is expected to cover 150 cities in Poland and over 35% of the country’s population.
At the moment, around 30% of the population is within the remit of the Era 3G network. PTC is currently launching the fastest version of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), which permits the download of data at a transfer speed of up to 7.2 Mbps. At the outset, the upgraded HSDPA will be available in certain parts of Warsaw and in Lodz, Krakow, Katowice, Poznan, Wroclaw and Gdansk by the end of July.

The operator is also launching a trial run of High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA), which permits the sending of data over a 3G network at a transfer speed of up to 1.4 Mbps. The HSUPA trials will be carried out in Warsaw, Lodz, Krakow, Katowice and Gdansk. The commercial launch is scheduled for the third quarter of 2007, along with the introduction of devices which would allow subscribers to make full use of the technology. At the moment, PTC clients may upload data at a maximum speed of 384 kbps.
