TVN to launch VOD system
2009-12-30
The
TVN group will launch a
video on demand (VOD) system in the first quarter of 2010. The pilot project was already commenced before Christmas 2009. The group does not reveal the value of the investment.
The
VOD service will also be available on
Onet.pl portal, where the TVN group has its video platform. The
customers will have to either pay for viewing the VOD streams or watch advertisements in exchange for viewing content for free.
TVN’s VOD system will rival
Ipla, an interactive multimedia platform belonging to
Polsat that launched such a system in December 2009. Polsat’s service is expected to be profitable in 2010/2011.
TVN group already operates such Internet services as Plejada.pl, TVN24.pl and TVN Warszawa. Moreover, the company runs a paid dating portal and yellow pages as well as some online auctions. In the first three quarters of 2009 the revenues of TVN group’s online segment went down by 0.2% to PLN 141.9m (€34.5m).
