Internet gaining popularity as independent media

The Internet is becoming a more independent form of media in Poland, according to the recent report under the name of Startrack 2009 prepared by Starcom MediaVest. Fifty-seven percent of Poles between 15 and 60 years old use the Internet. In 2007, 43% of respondents declared that television and newspapers were sources of information in addition to the Internet. In 2009, only 26% of Poles used both the Internet and other media as a source of information.
Viewing video streams in the Internet increased from 12% in 2007 to 26% in 2009. Also, Internet users watch the television for 2h 56m a day, while non-users of the Internet spend 4h 09m watching television. Moreover, 6% of Polish Internet users declare that they do not have a TV set at home.
During morning and evening hours, the Internet users use the Internet for checking emails and online chatting, while during evening hours the respondents declared to use social portals and read news online. E-shopping is done before midday and during the evening hours.
