2010-01-18
The
Polish IT market has seen the first decline in value in its history in 2009, according to the recent report prepared by IDC Polska. The value of the market is estimated to be around $10.3bn, reflecting a 10% year-on-year decrease.
The segment of IT hardware, which has the biggest share in the
IT market in Poland, is estimated to have shrunk by 19% year on year, i.e., by $1.3bn to $5.65bn, in 2009. Therefore, the sales of IT equipment have accounted for 54% of the total IT market in comparison to 61% in 2008. The software segment has grown, in turn, by 0.5% to $1.46bn and its share of the overall IT market has increased from 12% in 2008 to 14% in 2009. The most substantial increase is believed to have been reported by the segment of services whose increase is estimated at 2% to $3.2bn in 2009. Services have accounted for 32% of the total IT market value, while in 2008 they had a 27% share.
In 2010, the segment of hardware is expected to show a 3% rise in value terms, while software and services will grow by 5% and 2%, respectively. In total, the IT market is forecasted to increase by 3% in value year on year in 2010. The analysts underline, however, that many investments, frozen at the beginning of 2009, may be unblocked in 2010 and therefore the pace of IT market development could speed up in Poland.
