PTK Centertel, the operator of Orange mobile network, intends to shut down its analogue mobile network by March 2010. It was launched in 1992 and was the first mobile network in Poland. In its peak period Centertel had around 200,000 clients, while at present there are only 1,000 users of the network.
The company explains that the analogue network has stopped being profitable. Moreover, Centertel plans to use the network’s frequency for the development of its new offer, i.e., the wireless internet services based on CDMA technology, which operates on the same frequencies.
