Ipla broadening its VOD offer
2010-02-11
The popularity of the
video-on-demand (VOD) system is rapidly growing in Poland.
Ipla, an interactive multimedia platform belonging to Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, the owner of
Polsat, one of the largest commercial TV broadcasters in Poland, is currently offering around 100 movies from the
Warner Bros, Hollywood film company, such as The Matrix, Lord of the Rings and Batman. The service already has 2 million users that spend one hour per day on average watching the film productions. The company is also negotiating new contracts on cooperation with
Disney, Sony and
Universal Pictures. In addition, Ipla offers sports programs and popular Polish sitcoms.
According to Marcin Pery, the chairman of
Redefine, a company of the Polsat group that owns Ipla, quoted by
Rzeczpospolita, Ipla will show healthy results in 2010/2011. It has been in the red since 2008, when it started operating. Eventually, half of the platform revenues are to come from advertisements, and another half from the fees paid by the users.
