Clearance sales not available in online stores

2010-02-11

Only 20% of e-stores offer seasonal clearance sales, according to the recent research prepared by Nokaut.pl, the price comparison portal. As a result, around 60% of online retailers report a decline in sales after Christmas, which is traditionally the sales period in the offline stores. The e-retailers argue that they offer low prices throughout the year and, therefore, they do not reduce prices seasonally. On average the prices are 24% lower on the Internet than in the traditional stores.
According to the research, only 4% of Polish e-stores offer attractive, up to 50%, sales. Nonetheless, the popularity of clearance sales in the Internet is expected to grow in Poland. By way of example, such American retailers as Wal-Mart, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com commenced large clearance sales in December 2009, in order to boost sales by the end of the year.
