2010-02-11

E-commerce accounted for 7% of the Polish companies’ turnover in 2008, according to the recent Eurostat survey. It is one of the weakest results in the entire European Union, where 12% of the enterprise revenues were earned from e-commerce. The highest share of 26% was recorded in Ireland, while Bulgaria and Romania showed the lowest shares of 1% and 2%, respectively.
According to the data, in January 2009, 93% of firms in the European Union countries had internet access and 82% of companies had a broadband internet connection. In Poland, 90% of enterprises were connected to the Internet, and 58% had broadband connection while in Finland the shares were 100% and 94%, respectively.
In the EU member states, 73% of e-commerce turnover came from within the country, 19% from another EU country and 8% from outside the EU. In Poland, the shares were 71%, 24% and 6%, respectively.
