2010 to bring further decline in sales of mobile phone operators
2010-04-01
The value of the
mobile telephony market is expected to show further decline in 2010. In 2009, the combined revenues of the four
largest mobile phones operators, i.e.,
Polkomtel,
PTK Centertel,
PTC and
P4, totalled to PLN 24.79bn (€6.44bn), reflecting a 4% decline when compared to 2008. According to Klaus Hartmann, chairman of
PTC, the owner of Era GSM network, the market may decrease below PLN 24bn (€6.23bn) in 2010.
The prices of voice services will continue to fall in 2010, and the loss will be only partly compensated by the growing demand for
data transmission services and the mobile Internet, as Mr. Hartmann underlines. As a result, the mobile operators will search for new areas that could bring additional revenues. By the way of example, the operators may take part in a tender for the 2.6GHz frequency band.
