Ministry of Infrastructure proposes new digitisation regulations

2010-04-09

In accordance with a new bill on digitisation, from the beginning of 2011 all television sets sold in Poland will have to be equipped with a decoder receiving digital terrestrial television signals, as Rzeczpospolita reported. Poland must comply with the EU’s regulations on digitisation. According to Eurodata TV Worldwide, the analogue TV signal is planned to be switched off in 37 European countries by 2015.
A manufacturer who wants to sell the equipment without decoders will have to obtain from a customer a written statement that the customer was informed of the lack of the decoder. Failure to inform the clients will be penalised by the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE) with a fine of up to 3% of the company's revenue for the previous calendar year.
