According to the annual survey by Business Software Alliance, the rate of software piracy in Poland totalled 54% in 2009, which means that around half of the software installed in the households and companies is illegal, as Rzeczpospolita reported. The rate declined slightly in 2009 as in 2006 and 2007 it equalled 57%, while in 2008 it stood at 56%.
In 2009, the software producers incurred $506m losses due to software theft in Poland, while worldwide the losses totalled $51.4bn. The figures indicate a commercial value of software, as Bartlomiej Witucki, the Polish coordinator of BSA, quoted in the newspaper, explains.
According to unofficial data, among the most counterfeited programmes areMicrosoft products such as Windows and Office. In turn, Adobe Polska claims that 60% of Adobe Photoshop software installed in Poland is being used illegally .
