The European Commission will introduce new regulations on roaming fees in the European Union, as Gazeta Prawna reported. From 01 July 2010, the fee per one minute of roaming connection cannot be higher than €0.39. From 2011, the EC plans a further decrease in prices to €0.35 per minute.
Moreover, the EC has introduced limits for the rates for incoming calls – from July 2010 the rate will drop to €0.15 from the current €0.19. The rate for a text message, which currently cannot be higher than €0.11, will remain unchanged. Also, from July 2010 the charges on data transfers will be cut from €1 per megabyte to €0.80 and to €0.50 by 2011.
Since 2007, the European Union has been urging the telecom regulators to lower the prices of roaming. According to the EC, the mobile charges within the European Union member states are exorbitant.
