PTK Centertel, the operator of the Orange mobile network, and P4, the owner of Play mobile service, plan to establish a joint venture in order to bid together in the upcoming tender for the LTE frequency. Neither of the operators would reveal whether this is the first step to merger or how much share each of the companies would have in the consortium. At present, the operators are awaiting the permission from the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK).
In the opinion of the Office of Electronic Communication (UKE), the joint venture increases the chances for more effective investments such as faster network building and lower costs.
The market speculates that also Polkomtel, the operator of Plus mobile service and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa, which manages the Era mobile network, could create a consortium in order to have a stronger position in the tender.
