Internet access market worth PLN 4bn in 2009

According to a report by the Office of Electronic Communication (UKE), the value of the
Internet access market in Poland totalled PLN 4.07bn (€983m) in 2009, while in the previous year the figure was PLN 2.56bn (€618m). When compared to 2005 and 2007, the Internet access market grew by 137% and by 51% in 2009, respectively.
Since 2005 the number of fixed broadband lines grew by 155% from 2.02 million to hit 5.16 million in 2009. The xDSL connection lines increased by 130% when compared to 2005 to 2.8 million in 2009. Also, the number of cable television lines providing Internet grew from 520,000 in 2005 to 1.5 million in 2009, reflecting a 202% rise.
UKE also reported that in 2009, as many as 2.1 million users had connection to the Internet via mobile phones.
The largest player in the ISP market was
TP SA, with a 27% share, while the operators of mobile networks and cable television held 27% and 20% shares, respectively.
