2010-09-10
Mobyland, controlled by Aero2 and CenterNet, has launched a new Internet access network based on LTE technology in 1800 MHz band. LTE is a fourth-generation network that can provide transfer speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The Polish network is the first in the world that operates in 1800 MHz band. Other countries which have LTE networks, though in different frequency bands, are Sweden, Norway and Uzbekistan.
At present, the companies have 350 base stations in Poland and by the end of 2010 another 350 stations are to be added to the network, which will allow the servicing of 7 million users. By the end of 2011, the network is to be enlarged to 2,000 base stations. The value of the investment is estimated at PLN 2bn (€506m).
Both Mobyland and CenterNet will operate as the wholesalers for other operators, which will be deciding on offers for individual customers.
