Central and Eastern European markets - attractive but difficult territories - March 2008

Although Central and Eastern European markets are in different stages of development and saturation, they continue to offer some of the most promising markets for retailers.
Overall, Central European markets have already, more or less, matured and, in fact, become almost saturated with modern retail establishments, according to the annual A.T. Kearney Global Retail Development Index, which ranks emerging countries with respect to such factors as country risk, market attractiveness and its saturation. Although Hungary and Romania managed to hold their place in the rank, the developed markets of the Czech Republic and Poland as well as Slovakia have slipped from the rating.
