The VoIP market accelerates - January 2011

After a drop in 2009, the dynamic of the VoIP market in Poland has returned to a strong upward trend. The boom on the VoIP market several years ago resulted mainly from a low base, as well as intensified promotion of IP telephony on the part of operators. The market is now developing thanks to the higher demand for packages of telecommunications services.

Another important factor has been the growing popularity of hosted VoIP solutions within the SME segment. In 2007, when the client base was low and operators were only beginning to increase their efforts in the area of promoting VoIP solutions, the number of new users started to grow fast. A year later, after a period of growth caused by the low base effect, the figure plummeted to the level of 23%, and in 2009 the market slowed down nearly completely, noting growth at the level of just 5%. This proved wrong the expectations of operators, who had been convinced the financial crisis would bring greater interest in internet telephony due to its lower costs.
