A phone or a computer? Growth prospects for mobile internet in Poland - February 2011

A vast majority of revenues on the market of mobile telephony in Poland is generated, and will be generated in the coming years, by voice services and text messages. However, value added services are also gaining in importance, seeing that they can improve results due to their growth dynamic and relatively higher profit margins. The market of mobile internet serves as the best example.

At the end of 2010, revenues gained from mobile data transfer accounted for nearly 8% of the Polish market of mobile telephony. According to PMR’s forecasts, over the next five years the rapid growth of mobile services will prompt the proportion to grow more than double, reaching almost a fifth of the national market of mobile telephony. Mobile internet, as a value added service, has exceeded critical mass allowing to have a real impact on the whole market dynamic – in the next years it will provide the main growth driver for mobile telephony.
